About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and commercially minded Procurement Officer to join our raw materials procurement team. In this entry-level direct procurement role, you will play a crucial part in securing quality agricultural commodities and ingredients required for our poultry, livestock, and aquafeed production lines.
You will be responsible for day-to-day sourcing, supplier coordination, tracking commodity market prices, and ensuring timely deliveries to maintain continuous feedmill operations while keeping production costs optimized.
What you will do
- Assist in sourcing key feed raw materials, including grains (Maize/Corn), oilseed meals and cakes (Soybean meal, Palm Kernel Cake/Cake, Cottonseed meal), marine/animal proteins (Fish meal), and other specialized micro/macro feed additives.
- Support the execution of daily, weekly, and seasonal purchasing strategies based on production schedules and inventory levels.
- Monitor local commodity market trends, seasonal harvests, and price fluctuations for key feed ingredients.
- Maintain an updated database of local aggregators, farmers, grain merchants, and ingredient importers.
- Participate in negotiating competitive prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules with raw material vendors.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance (QA) and Laboratory teams to ensure delivered raw materials meet strict quality specifications (e.g., moisture content, protein level, absence of adulteration/aflatoxins).
- Coordinate truck arrivals, weighbridge operations, and offloading logistics to minimize demurrage and prevent factory downtime.
- Assist in preparing regular purchasing reports, cost tracking sheets, and supplier evaluation summaries.
What you will bring
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Supply Chain Management, Animal Nutrition, or a business-related discipline.
- Experience: 0–2 years of experience in agricultural purchasing, supply chain, feedmill operations, or commodity trading (NYSC / internships in agriculture or feed mills highly regarded).
- Language: Hausa (Fluent / Native Spoken): Essential to negotiate pricing, build relationships, and communicate fluently with local grain aggregators, farmers, market traders, and logistics operators a
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Practical problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, operational, and field/factory environment.
Helpful, not essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data tracking, simple formulas) and Word.
- Basic knowledge of key animal feed ingredients (e.g., maize, soy meal, PKC) and their basic quality parameters.
