About the role
We are seeking a proactive and result-oriented Agricultural Extension Officer to support the execution of our agricultural projects and outgrower programs across the Soy and Maize value chains. In this role, you will play a critical part in empowering farmers through practical training in Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Regenerative Agriculture while ensuring seamless post-harvest aggregation in coordination with our procurement team.
As Agricultural Extension Officer (in the Soy and Maize value chain), you will be responsible for implementation of projects/programs within the soy and maize value chain by implementing training programs on GAP (Good Agriculture Practices and Regenerative Agriculture practices, Sowing, and harvesting techniques for seed multiplication programs in multiple states within Nigeria. The applicant will be responsible for working with the Procurement team to ensure that the produce in such programs is procured effectively from all farmers in those outgrower programs.
What you will do
- Onboarding farmers in our outgrower farmers’ programs and provide trainings to promote regenerative agriculture, improve soil health, improve irrigation practices, improve residue management, reduce post-harvest losses, and conserve biodiversity around the farm.
- Use the Trainings of the Trainers (ToT) model, identification of model farmers, and effectively transfer knowledge of the trainings to smallholder farmer supply chains in soy and maize supply chains
- Onboarding of farmers, including geo-location mapping and reporting back on the sustainability metrics is essential for the person in this role.
What you will bring
- A personal passion for sustainable agriculture and food systems, particularly prior experience in soy and maize value chains
- 4-5+ years in relevant roles, including significant experience in driving the adoption of sustainable agriculture and positive environmental impacts in relevant projects and programs.
- Educational Qualification (degree)/ equivalent technical of relevant agriculture
- Self-reliance, motivation and willingness to travel and work in remote locations and sometimes challenging circumstances within the country
- Experience in managing complex projects within a large organisation and in partnership with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with donors, implementing agencies and partners is desirable
- Experience on geo-spatial analysis tools is desirable
Helpful, not essential
- Strong understanding of soy and maize value chains, including production systems and farmer supply networks
- Working knowledge of regenerative agriculture and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) implementation
- Ability to collect, manage, and analyze field data to support decision‑making, monitoring, and continuous improvement
